Flo & Johanna have been together for so long and their time in Porto is their latest and greatest adventure together. It felt so right to do a couples photoshoot in the streets of this dreamy city they now call home. If you’re looking for a Portugal wedding photographer, explore some of the magic we created here below.
This story is about Flo & Johanna, a loving and fun couple from Germany. They moved to Portugal in search of good weather, affordable living, and a new adventure by way of their self-converted campervan!
After a lot of traveling and exploring down from Germany to Spain, Flo & Johanna finally arrived in Portugal. Part of their journey was exploring Europe to find the place they wanted to live. When they got to Porto, they knew they had found it!
We met during an acro yoga workshop. If you haven’t heard of acro yoga before, it’s basically partner acrobatics. It’s a fantastic hobby to share with a partner! And you will likely meet some really wonderful people, like Flo & Johanna.
The first time we met I stood on top of their shoulders, so I was really happy for the chance to create photographic art with this couple in the city we all fell in love with – Porto.
I personally believe Porto is the most beautiful city I’ve seen in the world. Situated on the hilly land along the Douro River, just a few miles from the Atlantic coast.
Imagine colorful tiled houses sloping down toward a winding river crossed by sky-high bridges. At the same time, crumbling buildings and empty houses from a city familiar with recession. I love it. This place is gritty, it’s real, it’s art.
A Porto sunset never fails to impress, the vibrant rays gleaming off the uniquely patterned “Azulejo” tiles covering the buildings.
We wanted to capture the sublime beauty of this city of contrast at sunset. We decided this couples photoshoot would be a photo love journey through some of our favorite streets ending in a stunning park high up in the city.
We started our adventure not far from where I was living at the time, right downtown. Immediately we went to one of my favorite pedestrian streets that had the most stunning, golden, late afternoon light. We played for a while here until continuing our journey.
We started heading toward the Crystal Palace, a park where we were going to end up. We made a couple pit stops, eventually arriving at the park. While there’s no longer a crystal palace at this park, there are jaw-dropping city views, a peacock family, and so much more to explore here.
One of my dreams as a Portugal wedding photographer is to photograph an elopement or intimate wedding here in this park. It’s an oasis of peace and a feast for the eyes in one of the best cities in the world!
