How To Set A Positive Intention For Your Boudoir Session

You have the right to be the lead author (and illustrator, and publisher…) of your own life. Taking back control of that role can be hard, especially when you feel like you’re navigating as a secondary character in everyone else’s story.

That’s why today, we’re exploring setting a positive intention for your boudoir session. Intention setting invites you to take control of your own story, by creating a direction or a purpose, paired with a plan that aligns with your goals.

Intentions can be related to tangible goals and emotional goals – like how you want to feel about a particular event in the future. Intentions can also support you in holding yourself accountable and being active in your life, not passively letting life happen to you.

Intentionality lets you participate in life on YOUR terms.

Setting intentions can help you get the very most out of your boudoir photoshoot, which is exactly the point – to leave feeling like a powerful boss, full of renewed energy and zest for life.

Intentions are one of the ways we make a boudoir experience about more than just a sexy photoshoot!

What Are the Benefits of Setting Intentions?

There are many reasons to begin setting intentions. You may experience all of the benefits, or some, but any will make it worthwhile.

Here they are:

Increase your creativity

Intentions are all yours – and you can take them, twist them around, recreate and switch them up however you see fit! You can set a new intention every single day, for multiple events or situations you are going to be a part of. Intentionality helps you to discover your purpose every single day.

Improve your relationship in all areas of your life

You can set intentions for a variety of things in your life – from relationships, and friendships, to professional endeavours to physical ones! This will help you to feel empowered and present in all areas of your life.

Increase positivity & productivity

When you set an intention, you’re more likely to follow through and seek ways to practice affirmative actions to follow through with it! This, in turn, will help you feel positive, proud and productive.

Feel more present through mindfulness

Intentionality helps to remind our busy minds that all we have is the present moment and how we’re going to live it. That’s really all we have. Being intentional with your life, promotes increased mindfulness and approaches life with a sense of diligence and concentration, helping you to appreciate the little things.

Increase your self-worth

Intentions don’t rely on hitting a certain goal weight or making a specific income. Intentions determine the quality of your actions, not the end results! When we focus more on how we live, more than what we have earned, we realize we’re worthy of pursuing the path of happiness no matter what! We’re no longer judged on appearance or net worth, but by our values & actions.

5 Steps To Setting A Positive Intention For Your Boudoir Session

I invite you to take the time to set a positive intention ahead of your exciting boudoir session.

Step 1: Think about why you’re doing a boudoir photo shoot.

Consider what prompted you to sign up for a boudoir photo shoot. Are you on a self-love journey? Do you need a new, creative outlet? Are you keen to challenge yourself and do something out of your comfort zone? Do you want to just let loose and have some fun? Try and really hone in on the specifics of “why.”

Step 2: Explore your current body image, self-image, and where you are on your love and self-acceptance journey.

This step can get a little complicated, depending on where you are with your journey. You may wish to explore why you feel the way you do by considering outside influences such as the media, or close relationships. Or you may use this time to appreciate your body and practise gratitude for all it’s done.

Give yourself space to feel everything that comes and be gentle and kind to yourself. Self-compassion will go a long way here. If you want some help, check out my blog posts with 30 Journal Prompts for Body Image.

Step 3: Consider what comes next for you in self-acceptance, self-love, and positive body image.

The boudoir shoot is an incredible leap for many women in their self-acceptance journey. They see the images post-shoot and experience their body in a whole new way. Many experience their photos as a symbol of their feminine grace, taking back their power, or body autonomy.

This step invites you to consider how you will continue to embody that feeling and what practices you may wish to include more regularly to promote self-love & positive body image.

Step 4: Write out your intention for your boudoir photoshoot

What are the authentic intentions you want for your boudoir photo shoot? These should be thoughtful and completely authentic to you and your experience.

Here is some inspiration for intentions:

  • I will believe I am a beautiful being
  • I will be confident
  • I will control what I can control
  • I intend to embrace all that I am
  • I intend to embrace this new experience with positivity and joy
  • I intend to be my most authentic self
  • I intend to let go of my fears
  • I will be present with my body and my experience
  • I will approach my Viewing Session with curiosity and a willingness to be amazed
  • I will allow myself to see my body with new eyes
  • I release my body critiquing and am ready to learn to love my body

Step 5. Review your intention before your shoot

Before your shoot, spend time reviewing and understanding the intentions you set. Do you still stand by them? Are you still focusing on them? Do they need any slight tweaks to be more authentic?

Bonus step! Use your intention to create personal affirmations, customized to your journey. Read them out loud in the mirror daily in the week leading up to your boudoir photo shoot.
