Makeup Looks that Translate Well on Camera

The Classic, Smokey Eye

I love a bit of smokey eye. It’s not a traditional everyday look, so lots of women have fun with the drama and sensual allure it creates.

The smoky eye is almost an ombre look, fading from a dark, explosive color at the lash line to a sweeter, lighter tone towards the brow bone. It blends beautifully and can make your gorgeous eyes pop! The color palette can vary from mysterious dark blacks to something funkier using pinks and purples or keep to neutrals with golds and browns.

Pop Of Color

I think going colorful is a bold and brilliant choice, and a fantastic way to show off your unique personality. There are many directions, from contrasting colors to even a full rainbow eye-lid. A current trend that is circulating right now is bright, bold eyeliner (think pink or blue) paired with a subtle undertone for a cool contrast. Let’s get creative!

Winged Eyeliner

Meow! Winged eyeliner is a gorgeous, feline-inspired look that is a total beauty hack. It elongates the eye and can make your eye color really pop! It’s a sweet look that pairs drama with charm.

Behold the Bold Lip

You’re never fully dressed without your lipstick! A bold lip will add dimension to that pucker of yours, that is sure to bring out your inner fierce model. Bold lip could mean contrasting lip liner and lipstick or an out-of-this-world pop of purple, black, or classic red.

Natural Look

I’m here for natural looks! You might think a photoshoot needs boisterous makeup but, let me tell you, it’s not a necessity! I love doing natural looks, especially if that is what is going to make you feel the most confident. We achieve this through neutral, dewy, and clean colors for a fresh-faced, natural look.

No Makeup

It’s amazing when women tell me they want to do a no-makeup look]. It’s incredibly badass and absolutely possible.

Makeup Looks That Don’t Translate Well on Camera…

I have created a super helpful guide with all the pre-shoot ‘do not do’s”, which I suggest you have a read here: 8 Things NOT to do Before your Boudoir Photoshoot

Here’s what you need to avoid know as far as makeup:

  • No contouring (like with a darker foundation or concealer)! It ends up looking too heavy and almost “muddy” on camera.
  • Please also avoid using anything shiny/shimmery and glittery, as it doesn’t catch the lighting very well.
  • Lastly, no spray tans! It translates as very orange & streaky on camera and if there are any blotchy or uneven areas, the camera will focus on it! In edits, I can’t correct spray tan blunders.

Book Your Boudoir Session!

Regardless how you feel about makeup in your regular routine, there is something so special and indulgent about having your makeup and hair done professionally that can truly heighten your photoshoot experience! It’s a blast and intended to simply heighten your existing beauty. We will work very closely with you to ensure you feel incredible and confident with the final look.
