Monika & Kristina are the amazing couple featured here today! We had so much fun on this couples photoshoot in downtown Porto. With the sun setting over the winding river, we climbed, ran, and even flew a bit ;). Porto is a rich city full of culture, gorgeous sites, and amaaazing wine. Let’s talk about how I can help you create a safe, intimate, and fun setting to connect with your partner as a Porto wedding photographer.
This story is about Monika & Kristina, a cool Czech and Slovakian couple living in Porto, Portugal for schooling (including a PhD!). They drove out to Portugal and are enjoying fully the warm sun and fun community of people in Porto. Though I only knew them a short time, I loved the time I spent with them!
Monika & Kristina don’t have a lot of photos together. They definitely don’t have professional photos! They were happy for the opportunity, though nervous. But that’s not a problem – a big part of my job as a photographer is to help feel comfortable in front of the camera so we can make some magic together.
I talked them through what the process would be like and we brainstormed outfit ideas together. The day of, I did what I love to do for my couples. I connected with them and had them connect to each other. Together, we created a safe space for fun and exploration, for trying new things, for just being. We had so much fun that night and they told me later how it was sooo much easier than they imagined!
As a place, Portugal has endless photography possibilities. You have nature, old city, mountains, hot springs, cliffside beaches, rocky beaches, rolling country, you name it! (Yes, even volcanos!!)
Porto is fantastic for the city itself and what you can access from there. A quick drive or trip on public transport gets you to some world-class beaches and wineries.
But for today, we wanted to enjoy this city for its own merit. For Monika & Kristina’s couples photoshoot, we wanted to commemorate their life together in Porto. We stuck high (if you go downhill, you’ll have to go back up!). We wanted the lovely large views and fun perspectives of being all the way on the top of Porto, crossing over the famous Dom Luis bridge, and drinking in the views.
Porto is such an incredibly romantic city. There are so many options for an amazing couples photoshoot, including weddings and elopements! Reach out if you’re in need of a Porto wedding photographer who knows this city and so many incredibly beautiful locations all around Portugal. I’ve explored all over the country!
We started shortly before sunset up at the top of the Porto hill by the Sé, the main cathedral in Porto. I love the Sé for it’s gorgeous stone building and expansive “patio” area where you have a massive viewing area of the whole city.
I could tell Monika & Kristina were really happy to have the chance to just focus on each other and love on each other. The sun was glowing and making all of us really happy and joyed at our playground here. Any shyness can easily be handled with some cozy cuddles with your boo.
We slowly made our way over the Dom Luis bridge, taking breaks along the way and enjoying this perfect summer sunset. There’s no such thing as rushing in Portugal – you just don’t do it. You go slow, take every moment as it comes, and savor it. I learned patience in Portugal 😉
Finally we made it over to the other side, which is actually another city – Gaia! They have a bit of a rivalry with Porto. Porto-siders like to say the best thing about Gaia is the view of Porto. While I’m not going to take sides, the view of Porto from Gaia are SERIOUSLY AMAZING!!
We had so much fun climbing around the rocks and exploring the Gaia side near the bridge.
Monika & Kristina proposed doing some acro yoga poses together – I was so on board! Acro yoga is such a fun partner practice and really encourages connection and honesty between base and the flyer.
If you have any special hobbies together with your partner, let’s talk about how we can incorporate them into your photos! Your hobbies together are such a big part of your life and connection together and it’s really special to be able to honor that in your couple photoshoot or wedding photography.
