Lisa & Matt soaked in their love for each other and the outdoors in this fall mountain wedding session in Colorado. We made it out to bask in the golden aspens during peak fall wedding colors here. So much fun was had and so much love was shared as we hiked, climbed, and explored this beautiful place.
This story is about Lisa & Matt, a loving and active couple in Colorado. These two have one of those “love at first sight” stories. They grew up in the same hometown but Lisa had moved away years back. They met while she was back in town to visit family for the holidays and went on their first date at their climbing gym.
Within days of meeting, they had met a lot of each other’s families and shortly after made plans for Matt to come out to Denver, where Lisa was living, to live with her.
From the moment they met, they had no doubt that they had found the person they were going to spend the rest of their lives with. Matt told me firmly, “no doubts.”
It was inspiring to see a couple like these two who are so committed and so deeply in love. They both have a deep love for the outdoors and active lifestyles and have the cutest little family with their mountain pug, Filbert.
Lisa & Matt got married in September and wanted to get fall mountain wedding photos done together during peak aspen foliage season in Colorado.
Earlier in the year, they hiked through Golden Gate Canyon State Park and Lisa noticed the number of aspens there. She craved those fall wedding colors from this gorgeous tree and imagined getting photographed with her life love there.
Well, it exceeded all our expectations. You can’t really predict peak fall colors and we lucked out by working on the peak weekend this year.
We met up at the park’s visitor center, where I met Filbert for the first time, and headed over to the trailhead. We wanted to hike to an epic spot along this trail that I had scoped out the day before with an aspen meadow. Well…we didn’t make it as far as the meadow because we found the most perfect spot right on the trail beforehand!
By the way, this is a FANTASTIC park! I hiked with my partner and some friends on a nearby trail the day before and we all agreed it was one of our favorite hikes of the year. There is so much variety, stunning views, and gorgeous golden fall foliage.
Back to Lisa & Matt!
After arriving at our destination, we found some trees to hide behind to change. No way was Lisa going to be able to hike in her beautiful, if restrictive, mermaid-style lace dress. No problem – I was there to help her get all zipped up before we frolicked in the meadow, tried to stop Filbert from eating deer poop, climbed all over the boulders, and generally had a grand ole time.
We decided to head out to an area of the park with panoramic views of the mountains for sunset, so Lisa & Matt shimmied back into their hiking clothes and we headed back down to the car.
When we arrived at our sunset spot, we were just blown away. The mountains in the distance were shaded in soft blues and purples while the sun drifted below the clouds clinging to the mountain tops. It was a time to soak in the natural beauty of this place while enjoying the special company.
The special magic between Matt & Lisa feels so real, so bursting with love, so confident, that you really can’t help but notice. I feel honored to be able to work with them and capture this bit of magic for them to treasure forever.
