Liz & Naz got engaged and decided to commemorate the special event with some hiking engagement photos that captured their love for their home, the outdoors, and each other. These Colorado engagement pictures really capture the playful relationship these two share and their unique brand of magic.
This story is about Liz & Naz, and incredibly fun and affectionate couple from Fort Collins, CO.
I really loved working with these two – their love for each other was so apparent. You could tell they were on cloud 9 and happy for the opportunity to capture their magic in the spirit of play and adventure.
One of my favorite parts about working with Liz & Naz was how they felt so comfortable with each other. I know, it seems like a no-brainer, right? But something about the way they could just be in each other’s company and arms really melted my heart.
For this adventure we decided to head out to a location Liz & Naz enjoy, the Horsetooth Mountain Park right outside of Fort Collins. As a waterfall lover, I was totally onboard when they suggested the Horsetooth Falls as their engagement photo destination.
While the waterfalls was more of a water trickle, we absolutely loved this location and the opportunities it allowed us. There were fun boulders and trees to climb around and the shade around the falls was very welcome on this hot July afternoon.
The trail to arrive at the falls was gorgeous and we spend some time enjoying the mountain views on our way.
I met with Liz & Naz at the trailhead before we started the short hike to our destination – Horsetooth Falls. I LOVE hiking together with couples as it gives us an opportunity to get to know each other in a setting that we all feel comfortable in.
We talked about all sorts of stuff, including our “chosen families” and how much they mean to us. We were so wrapped up in our conversation we almost missed the deer grazing literally 10 feet away from us!
When we got to the falls, they got changed as I acted as a privacy barrier to the others enjoying th falls. By the time we started, the falls had emptied out and we were able to have the whole place to ourselves.
Like always, I gave them some space to connect with each other before cameras are involved. This is something I value a lot when working with couples. The shoot is all about you two and I want to make sure you understand and value that before we even start taking pictures. It’s easy to get caught up in nervousness and self-consciousness, so I do my best to bring us into a space where you can leave that all behind and just enjoy these time dedicated to the two of you, together.
Breathe each other in and think about what you love about the soul before you, and that will shine bright in your photos.
We played a lot with our natural environment, climbing on trees and rocks and generally having a good time. I could sense some of the nuance of their relationship because I let them just play and be natural. Naz would find something and climb on top of it while Liz looked on with exasperated affection at her antics. Liz felt like the rock while Naz felt like the wind – they complemented each others’ energies and spirits so well!
We had a number of fun competitions, my favorite of which was the arm-comparison contest. I think we all would agree that Naz won 😉
