Classic Boudoir Photography Style: Ideas, Poses, Outfits, and Inspiration
On the blog, I’m covering the Classic Boudoir Photography Style to help you get inspired for your shoot!
Today we’re talking about classic boudoir photography style – which is probably the most common type of boudoir image you’ve seen!
Classic boudoir is often soft, romantic, and focused on highlighting the sensuality and beauty of the subject. I think of classic boudoir photography feeling very feminine and gentle. Below I’ll give some different examples of classic boudoir so you can get a visual sense of this style!
There is something timeless about black & white boudoir photography. It feels more old school and can really add some drama to a photo. It pairs well with the soft, feminine nature of classic boudoir photography.
Bed Poses
Bed poses are classic boudoir! Some of my top-selling poses involve some sort of lounging on a bed. But don’t be fooled – some of these poses are more work than they look! Don’t worry though, I’ll coach you from head to toe into all these classic and sensual bed poses. You’ll love how you are in one of my many classic beds poses.
Get Comfy
Classic boudoir doesn’t have to mean wearing lingerie! A cozy sweater is a perfect addition to a classic boudoir photoshoot. It adds a soft, casual, girl-next-door feeling to your images. If you feel sexy when you’re wearing your favorite sweater and feeling good in your own skin, then bring it to your next boudoir shoot!
White Sheet
The white sheet can be nude or ‘implied nude’, which basically means the sheet is covering enough of your body that it looks like you might be nude, but you could be wearing lingerie underneath. (basically Schroedinger’s Nude). To me, nothing says sensual more than a classic boudoir bed pose and artfully draped white sheet to highlight the mystery and curves of your body.
What do you wear to a classic boudoir photoshoot?
With classic boudoir, there are so many options for outfits! I send each of my clients a detailed styling & prep guide, which gives a lot of tips & photo examples of what kind of outfits they should consider.
All bodies are different, so there’s no one-size-fits-all approach, but I do have a few tips that apply to nearly everybody:
A beautiful and classic boudoir outfit is a matching bra & panty. Before your boudoir shoot is the perfect time to get properly fitted for a bra at Nordstrom or a bra boutique (not Victoria Secret, unless you wear a very common and easy to find bra size).
Bodysuits look amazing on most people and come in a wide variety of colors and styles to suit anyone’s taste or shape.
If you’re buying thigh highs or strappy lingerie, buy one size bigger so it doesn’t dig into your skin and leave dents or marks.
Nude or topless for a ‘white sheet’ set
One of my favorite classic boudoir outfits is a matching & well-fitting, bra, panty, and thigh-high stocking set, like the one below.
