What is the meaning of body positivity? While it can mean a variety of things, it is essentially a boisterous movement that says “beat it” to the idea that people should have to look a certain way to fit into society and be accepted – and while the primary discourse is about weight and body type, it does extend to race, gender, sexuality, and disability. Everyone is welcome here.
Embodied Art Boudoir studio is rooted in body positivity, a space that invites you to feel safe, heard, and empowered. I sincerely encourage you to come to our Body Positive Boudoir Studio as you are: the focus of the shoot is to celebrate you as the work of art you already are. When you step into your session, I capture you in the space you’re in that day. A candid, timeless depiction of beauty – ‘imperfections’ and all.
Body positivity spreads the idea that people should be appreciated, respected, and loved for who and what they are. It strives to advocate the acceptance of every single body while promoting self-confidence and pushing away insanely unrealistic body standards.
There simply is not enough body diversity across all mediums of media. As much as we may not want to admit it, the media and their ideals are pushed everywhere and do form many of our beliefs. What we consume in the media makes a massive impact on:
our self-esteem
the lack of normalization of fat bodies
what the world defines as “beautiful”
For most women, self-love and body acceptance is a long journey with plenty of ups and downs. And a body positivity photoshoot can help boost you up!
Not the Default
Unfortunately, not all photographers practice body positivity. Lot’s get stuck in the trap of ‘flattering’ and aim to make their clients look smaller in photos. Or hide parts of their bodies like stomachs and arms just because they aren’t flat and slim. Or Photoshop their clients slimmer or curvier.
Shrinking someone’s body in post production or posing for slimming doesn’t promote the fact that ALL bodies are beautiful & deserve to be seen that way.
It breaks my heart every time someone asks me if I photograph plus-size folks. Let me set the record straight: YES I 100% photograph women of all sizes. And I truly believe you deserve to feel beautiful in your body.
How Boudoir Can Be Your Body Positivity Photoshoot
Your journey of body acceptance and body positivity can – and should 😉 – lead you to a boudoir photography session.
It’s an exciting, healing, self-loving, artistic experience. And I’ll meet you where you’re at. I firmly believe that the focus and shift in perspective a boudoir photography session offers can help women reframe the way they see themselves.
First of all, it shows everything about your beautiful body – “flaws” and all, that makes you who you are. Your body tells your story – something nobody can take away. It’s a story of your courage, struggles, successes, and journey.
Know that despite your perceived “flaws,” you are worthy of a good life, of love, of acceptance.
Second, we’re going beyond the body in our boudoir photoshoots. I’m coaching you to bare your soul in a way that makes your photos so much more meaningful than a picture of your butt.
Sure, you’ll get great butt pics, but you’ll also be able to see beyond your body to your emotional heart in your boudoir photos. (Don’t worry, you don’t need to know how to do this. That’s my job!)
As a photographer, I strive to make every woman who walks in my studio doors feel seen, safe, comfortable, and empowered.
You can read more about my definition of what empowering boudoir photography is in an older blog post, but the idea is that your session is a time for you to discover and connect to yourself – while expressing shamelessly & accepting the hidden or judged parts of your identity.
And I want to show the stunning feminine form in its varied and perfectly imperfect ways – as triumphant defiance to popular media that doesn’t do it enough. That’s a big part of what a body positivity photoshoot is all about!
You may have been tricked into thinking your body doesn’t fit into photos and you can’t model – but I want to change that, as your humble guide while you experience your beauty and power in new ways.
Commemorate Your Body Positive Photos Forever
Naturally, you will want to commemorate your body positivity shoot! Plus, I think it’s important to keep your stunning photos somewhere you can view regularly – especially on those days when you have a low self-esteem day and need a lift.
That’s why we don’t focus on digitals here – those often get forgotten on a hard drive.
You can do this with our exciting Collections that include albums, wall art, digital images, and other artwork products. Please note, products are paid separately from Session Fees from either the Collections or a la Carte menus.
Albums are a sexy, nostalgic take to good ol’ photo albums (remember those!?). Albums are by far the most popular option for women as they include a generous number of photos from your shoot (20-50+!) which you can have in sizes ranging from 8×8 – 12×12. They’re easy to hide away from kids or parents and gorgeous enough to earn a place on your coffee table!
Wall Arts are for those who want to be loud & proud about their beautiful bodies. Wall art is offered in either acrylic or metal prints and come in a range of sizes – from 5″x7″ for a subtle bedside print or 24″x 36″ as a power move!
Gallery Boxes allow you to beautifully display around 10-20 photos in lovely framed mats – ready to frame for a gallery wall or have a rotating display in an easel on your dresser. These are such a good way to practice loving different parts of your Self & body!
Digital Images are absolutely available, too! Almost every Collection comes with digitals. You will get either a full or partial set of web-resolution digital images, which you can view on a bonus (private) smartphone app!
Photo books are the newest offering I have! This is a cute way to display your images in a leather (or vegan leather!) bound book. Its smaller then the traditional albums, but just as chic!

I love this quote – it becomes exhausting to try and be something you will never be. It’s exhausting to constantly feel like you stick out and don’t fit into a world obsessed with the skinny, white, cis, able-bodied models. We all know it’s an unrealistic standard!
So try something else! Be a rebel and push away those ideals and fight the norm by loving yourself without conditions.
